Has it been awhile since you’ve gotten over to see what’s going on at the Urban Ecology Center?  Delay no longer!  Below is a selection of upcoming UEC events hand-picked for us by the Riverside UEC Branch Manager Jamie Ferschinger — the first of which is this coming Monday, Aug 3rd for a walk with Mayor Barrett!  The list below includes brief descriptions of the events and more information is available on the UEC website (urbanecologycenter.org).

 

Aug 3, 5:30pm. Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days with Mayor Barrett (Free)

Walk will begin at the Urban Ecology Center in Riverside Park located at 1500 E. Park Place. The walk will conclude at the Lake Park Musical Mondays event. Approximate distance 1.5mi.

 

Aug 6, 4:30-7:30pm. Ice cream Social (Free)

In 2005 we celebrated the grand opening of the first Urban Ecology Center building with an ice cream social. Celebrate 10 years of learning, restoration and community in this building with another ice cream social! Join us for climbing, hikes, games, music, a community art project and of course…ice cream!

 

Aug 7, 6-9:00pm. Grown-up Summer Camp with New Belgium Brewery.

Summer Camp isn’t just for kids – we’re inviting adults to an evening of summer camp fun…with a twist! Rock climbing, paddling, campfire, plus a beer tasting and education station with New Belgium Slowride beer. Participants can enter to win a New Belgium prize package. Come on grown-ups, bring your friends and come to summer camp! Must be age 21 and over to participate.

 

Sept 12, 11-3:00pm. Local Food and Wellness Fair (Free)

Fresh food is only one part of a healthy lifestyle. We need movement and body awareness to complete our physical self-care. That’s why this year we’ve expanded our annual Local Food Open House to include resources for natural wellness activities. Enjoy workshops, presentations and visit vendors as you learn about resources for eating locally and living well.

 

Sept 19, 10-3:00. Milwaukee Coffee Festival (Free)

Celebrate Milwaukee’s other favorite brew during the Milwaukee Coffee Festival. Join us for a day of tasting, experiencing and learning about sustainably grown and locally sold coffee from the leaders in the field. Coffee sampling, presentations, door prizes and more. Sept. 20th. HKE MKE – a benefit hike for the Urban Ecology Center

 

Oct 3. 11-3:00pm. Ferment!Milwaukee: Exploring the Culinary and Health Benefits of Fermentation (Free)

Learn and explore the many culinary and health benefits of fermentation. Meet local experts and vendors who sell fermented food products and attend a workshop!

 

Oct 8, 5-7:00pm. Art Opening: The Nature of Prints, Sally Duback and Barb Manger. The Forest Floor, Shannon Molter. (Free)

 

October 17, 5:30-7:30pm. Enchanted Forest

Come see Riverside Park come alive with leafy, green friends! Visitors to the Enchanted Forest will meet a variety of plant and animal characters on a guided, candlelit walk through the park. Through silly skits, these characters will teach you about things like plant parts, seed dispersal, photosynthesis and more! After the hike, come inside for games and crafts. Costumes encouraged!
