MilWALKee Walks: Making Milwaukee a safer, more enjoyable place to walk
The City of Milwaukee is expanding and improving our neighborhood traffic calming program. The new program will be easier to understand, and residents will have the opportunity to invest in a variety of traffic calming measures which will help keep our neighborhood streets calm and safe for everyone.

Marybeth McGinnis from MilWALKee Walks and staff from Milwaukee Department of Public Works will come to discuss the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program, the upcoming changes, and how we can work with the city to bring safety changes to Murray Hill.

MilWALKee Walks (mkewalks.wisconsinbikefed.org) is an advocacy group within the Wisconsin Bike Federation focused on making Milwaukee a safer, more enjoyable place to walk. Their main focuses are working with the city to build safer streets and educating residents on how to navigate the process to request traffic calming solutions in their neighborhood.

Traffic calming solutions have typically involved adding stop signs and speed humps, especially in residential areas. Recently, the city has expanded its focus to include pinned-on bump outs throughout the city.

You can request traffic calming changes through the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program (NTMP) website here.

MilWALKee Walks has been working with the city to update the NTMP to make it more understandable and to encourage residents to consider different options, such as the bump outs, traffic circles, and raised crosswalks.

This month, the MPD will not be in attendance, but will return for upcoming meetings. For future meetings, our MPD community liaison officers may come every other month, so if you have a topic or issue to discuss with the captain or our CLOs one-on-one, this will be a great opportunity to do so!
