January MHNA Meeting Highlights

Our January 23 meeting was packed with info and updates, so we wanted to share some of the highlights in case you weren’t able to join us!

  • MPD D1 Community Liaison Officer Felix shared crime and safety updates.

    • District 1 will be holding quarterly crime and safety meetings – flyer available here.
    • Protect your bike by registering it at bikeindex.org
  • Erin Keleske presented about Plastic Free MKE, a coalition of individuals, businesses, and organizations seeking to eliminate single-use plastics in Milwaukee.  Did you know that the average person uses 500 plastic bags every year?!  Learn more about supporting Lake-Friendly local businesses and take the individual pledge as a personal reminder that you can refuse single-use plastics.  Or participate in the monthly meetings (5:30 on the 1st Monday of the month at the UEC).
  • Anneke Mohr and Michael Gonzalez, Jr. presented about the Hold On To Your Butt campaign, aimed to reduce the number of cigarette butts and other smoking litter out of our environment.  Like their page on Facebook!
  • Murray Hill resident Jen Norris told us about the Buy Nothing – Upper East Side Milwaukee Facebook Group, which aims to build community relationships while reducing our consumer footprint.
  • Announcements included:
    • February 25 Murray Hill Meeting speakers will be Senator Chris Larson and Representative Johnathan Brostoff
    • April 11 is the 16th Annual Eggs-travaganza at 9AM at Riverside Park
    • April 18 is the 25th Annual Milwaukee Riverkeeper Cleanup
