We’re a Super Reader Neighborhood!
Murray Hill Neighborhood Has Become a Super Reader Neighborhood!
Milwaukee Public Library’s Super Reader Summer Reading Program at a Glance:
- Super Reader starts on May 13 and ends on August 29, 2013.
- Children ages 0-12 can participate. Enroll at any Milwaukee Public Library location. Your nearest library is East Library.
- Young adults ages 13-17 can participate in the teen summer reading program “Put Your Face in a Book.”
- Children can be read to or read on their own to participate.
- The program is free and does not require a library card. BUT a library card is needed to check out materials from the library.
- If you have a child in first grade or older, help them get a library card.
National research shows that children who read over the summer maintain or even improve their reading abilities and educational outcomes. Research also shows that children who DON’T read over the summer can lose up to three months of the reading skills learned during the school year. In addition to the benefit to reading skills, reading is an opportunity for families to spend time doing something together.
The Milwaukee Public Library is introducing a new facet to their Summer Reading Program – Super Reader Neighborhoods. Murray Hill Neighborhood Association wants to positively impact the lives of families and children in your neighborhood and has signed on to be a Super Reader Neighborhood. Help us to spread the word by sharing this program with your neighbors, displaying your Super Reader signs on your lawns or homes and through social media.
This exciting program encourages reading as it guides young readers (0-12 years) through interesting books at the library. Kids can also earn prizes and coupons (e.g., free Cousin’s subs, admission to the Zoo & Brewer’s game) as they reach a new level of reading. Events and classes, a free book bag, summer entertainment, resources for parents, family fun days are some of the special parts of this program. Whether it is story time for kids 0-5 years, the special “Put your face in a Book” program for teens or just lots of great books, there is something for everyone. The program starts at the East Library on May 13th and ends on August 29, 2013. You can get more information at East Library or go to: www.mpl.org/summerreading/superreader_index.htm.
