City Notice: St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations

Aldermen Nik Kovac and Robert Bauman would like to make East Side and Downtown residents aware of a large event happening this weekend with thousands of participants.

The 4th annual Shamrock Shuffle pub crawl takes place this Saturday, March 9, starting at 2:00 p.m. on East North Avenue and on Water Street.

In addition, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins at noon in downtown Milwaukee.

The Parade has permits from the City of Milwaukee to close off streets. The pub crawl does not. It is not authorized by the city, but will end up requiring thousands of dollars in our taxpayer resources.

The Milwaukee Police Department will have an increased presence, including a command post, on East North Avenue and the neighborhoods directly adjacent to the event.

In the previous three years, two such bar crawls have led to two deaths from patrons who were overserved. This year, the police will be taking careful note of which licensed establishments are overserving patrons, and that will be put in their files to be considered by the Common Council when those licenses come up for renewal.

Hopefully, no one is overserved and no reports are made. But we will be ready, because past years have taught us that we must be.

Residents may report problems with disruptive behavior to the non-emergency number at 414-933-4444.

These calls will be transferred to the command post for a response.

For life-threatening situations, call 911.

Also, feel free to contact Alderman Kovac at 414-286-3765 or nkovac@milwaukee.gov, or Alderman Bauman at 414-286-3774 or rjbauma@milwaukee.gov with any concerns.
