Reminder: Report It! Record It!

Good morning,

As we all are no doubt aware, the UWM fall semester is about to begin. Those of us who have lived in the area for long know what to expect. We are about to see a dramatic increase in nighttime disruptions.

A couple of years ago, MHNA developed the Report It / Record It program with MPD District 1. This program is the best tool we have at the moment to help contend with sleepless nights. So, please, please, please, call District 1 when you experience noise disruptions, particularly when you can identify the property that is the source of the disruption. Call 935-7211. Tell the desk officer that you want to make a noise nuisance complaint using the Report It / Record It program. Make sure you use those words.

And remember… If you tell the officer that you are willing to testify should the matter go to court, then the chances of a positive outcome will be greatly enhanced. MPD has committed to issuing citations under those circumstances even if the responding squad doesn’t directly witness the problem. That is the “Report It” part.

One more thing… please follow up with the “Record It” step. Make yourself a note about what happened, what address was involved, when it happened, and what the result was. If you don’t hear back from District 1 about the results, follow up with an email to the neighborhood liaison officer, Jose Alba, and ask what the outcome was. Officer Alba’s email address is jalba@milwaukee.gov and be sure to copy MHNA as well. We need to track how well the program is working.

Thank you!
