Help Purge Lake Park of Garlic Mustard

Lake Park Friends is extending an invitation to all the users of Lake Park to help us in the eradication of Garlic Mustard in the ravines.  Because it is not native and is very invasive, we have been working to eradicate it for many years.  We have been successful in reducing the outbreak in the North Ravine, Locust Street Ravine and the Waterfall Ravine and are rewarded each year with more and more native wildflowers returning to the ravines. If every user of Lake Park pitched in a little we could completely eradicate the plant.

We will be pulling Garlic Mustard the next four Saturdays (9 AM-12PM-ending May 25th) and will train people in recognizing the plant and in pulling it correctly.  I will be at the Warming House (the small building south of the tennis courts) from 9 to 12 in the morning. I can arrange another time to weed for those who find Saturday mornings difficult.  Also, there is a regular group weeding in the Waterfall Ravine on Tuesdays from 4 to 7 PM.  They meet at the top of the Waterfall.

Contact me if you have questions or want to arrange a time other than Saturday or Tuesday.

PS: The Ravines are much dryer and the garlic mustard is now bigger and thus easier to pull.  And the wildflowers are starting to appear.  How can you resist working in the ravines this time of year.
