Temporary street closures around UWM on Sunday

This note is from Kevin O’Connor at UWM:

Hi all – I just wanted to forward along the Chancellor’s message that went to campus today about the Fox News Town Hall that will be taped on campus Sunday. At this point the impacts on the neighborhood should be minimal as the Theater Building is actually on the interior of campus. There will likely be temporary street closures near campus to let the motorcade through, but the streets should reopen as soon as that passes. Should we learn of any additional likely impacts we will pass those along. — Kevin

campusupdate

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,

Our campus has been the site of several presidential candidate visits, and I want to inform you of another ahead of the April 5 spring election and presidential primaries.

The Fox News Channel is hosting a town hall event with candidate Donald Trump this Sunday, April 3 at 3 p.m. in UWM’s Mainstage Theatre. Fox News anchor Greta Van Susteren is moderating. This is a ticketed event being managed by Fox News. Please send ticket inquiries to: Otrtownhall@foxnews.com.

Please note that there will be some restricted areas, temporary parking changes, and appropriate security measures in place. We will do all that we can to ensure the safety for all who wish to attend this event on our campus.

There will be no access to the Theater Building and adjacent buildings, including Music, Art and the Art Lecture Hall, and Mitchell Hall. The Student Union, Mellencamp and Mitchell parking lots will be closed. People coming to campus on Sunday should consider alternative parking locations in the west and north quadrants of campus (EMS, Cunningham, Klotsche/Pavilion).

As a public university, we allow outside entities to lease our facilities, and we do not restrict their use based on the content of any individual or entity’s message. Such openness is consistent with our commitment to free speech and academic freedom. UWM does not endorse or promote any political candidates. We do encourage all students, faculty members, and staff to educate themselves about all candidates and to participate in our nation’s political process.

Best regards,

Mark A. Mone
