Project Clean and Green starts on Tuesday, May 29
The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works’ annual Project Clean & Green program runs through June 11, 2018. Zone 6, which starts on May 29 (next Tuesday) and goes through Monday, June 4, includes nearly the entire 3rd Aldermanic District, according to Alderman Nik Kovac. Please see the attached map for reference.
Project Clean & Green (PCG) is a citywide program designed to foster neighborhood pride through coordinated pick-up of excess household debris, street and alley sweeping, nuisance inspections, graffiti removal, and other neighborhood beautification activities sponsored by community agencies.
How Project Clean & Green works: Normally, residents are charged $50 – $150 for all bulky item pick-up requests larger than one (1) cubic yard (about the size of an easy chair). However, on a resident’s Project Clean & Green collection day, DPW crews will pick up unwanted household items at no charge to the resident. All City of Milwaukee residents are assigned to one of seven Project Clean & Green “zones”. Residents are encouraged to set out their extra unwanted items on their regular garbage collection day during their designated Project Clean & Green zone week. On their PCG pickup day, residents should place their unwanted furniture, mattresses, household items, up to two (2) cubic yards of tree trimmings and leaves, yard and garden waste, and up to five (5) tires at their regular garbage collection point – either the curb or alley line.
New for 2018: Residents can use brown paper yard waste bags available at area stores for their yard waste, or they can place it in piles at their collection point. However, grass clippings MUST be placed in a brown paper yard waste bag – do not place loose grass clippings in a pile or in your garbage/recycling carts for pick-up. This is the only time the City will collect grass clippings.
If residents miss their PCG pick-up date, please use the Drop Off Centers to dispose of your items. Additionally, brush collection of up to 2 cubic yards is provided at no charge by request from April through November.
