Guest Speaker:

Milwaukee Historian Brian Fette

Brian Fette, a Michigan native, arrived in Milwaukee from Ann Arbor due to a job transfer in 1987. He retired from a career in product development and strategic planning for a Michigan-based global manufacturer. His undergraduate and graduate studies include Eastern Michigan and Michigan State University.

A strong pride in Milwaukee is evidenced by more than a decade of researching and speaking on Milwaukee History.

Brian will talk about how Milwaukee’s East Side is like a quilt of small neighborhoods like residential Chicago. Streetcars and public transportation strongly influenced the timing and development of the East Side, as well as a Chicago-trained architect who designed the Downer Avenue commercial block where the Downer Theater sits.

Previous appearances include National Public Radio, the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin, and the College Endowment Association.

Additional appearances include the Osher Institute, Friends of the Golda Meir Library, the North Point Lighthouse, and The Water Tower Neighborhood Association. Brian is also a Docent at historic Forest Home Cemetery where he is Sculpture Curator and conducts a tour on The Gilded Age of the Cream City.
