Eastside Garden Tour – Recap and Photos
The first time offered, this free, self-guided tour of the diverse gardens of Milwaukee’s Eastside neighborhoods attracted an estimated 600 – 700+ people on Sunday, July 28th from communities as far as Holy Hill and Racine, as well as many more local residents. People picked up maps of garden locations/directions at the Northpoint Lighthouse or the Urban Ecology Center, where they had a chance to interact with master gardeners, artists, and vendors, visit rain gardens, and more before hitting the route by walking, biking or driving. The sunny and comfortable weather added to the success of the day.
Over two dozen very diverse gardens that were filled with water features, yard art, vegetables, the textures of shade gardens and the bountiful colors of perennials and annuals were graciously and enthusiastically shared with the public by the gardeners. The free tour was presented by Eastside Milwaukee Community Council with sponsorship by Nord Construction, VIA of Downer, Pizza Man, Cambridge Woods Neighborhood Association, North Point Lighthouse, and the Urban Ecology Center. Thanks to the sponsors and the visitors for the support needed to make the event possible.
