Michael Hutchinson
Sanitation Supervisor
Department of Public Works – Sanitation
In his role, Mike works to ensure residents receive reliable garbage and recycling services while also helping coordinate seasonal efforts like leaf collection, snow and ice control, and cleanup following major weather events. Mike takes pride in serving the community and strives to be a positive and approachable resource for residents. He is passionate about mentorship—especially supporting young people—and values the importance of mental health and overall well-being.
Outside of work, Mike is a proud father of two daughters and is committed to making a positive impact both on and off the job.
Sanitation Supervisors manage waste collection, recycling, and disposal services. They oversee staff, schedule routes for sanitation crews, ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations, and maintain equipment.
Sanitation collects garbage and household recyclables from approximately 190,000 households with 1 – 4 units in the City of Milwaukee. Garbage is collected weekly and recycling is collected every other week. Collection schedules may shift after City Holidays.
Meeting with Sanitation Supervisor Hutchinson one-on-one is a great opportunity to discuss how the city’s sanitation operations impact Murray Hill and the East Side.

The Local Paving Program utilizes local funds to reconstruct and resurface streets where pavement condition, curb and gutter, driveway approaches and sidewalk have deteriorated. The High Impact Paving Program is a maintenance program that utilizes local funds to add asphalt overlays on streets to extend their useful life.
