East Side Neighborhood Associations to Host 3rd Aldermanic District Primary Candidate Forum

Six East Side neighborhood associations will host a candidate forum in the race to fill the vacant Common Council seat.

Day:  Tuesday, February 11, 2025
Time:  6:30–8 p.m.
Place: St. Mark’s Church, 2816 North Hackett Avenue

The forum will provide the 3rd District community with the opportunity to learn more about the candidates running for the Common Council seat and where they stand on the issues important to voters in the district.

Community Co-sponsors for the Event Include:

Murray Hill Neighborhood Association, Historic Water Tower Neighborhood, Cambridge Woods Neighborhood Association, Mariners Neighborhood Association MKE, East Bank Neighborhood Association and Greenwich Friends.

Eight candidates will appear on the Feb. 18 ballot in the race to serve as the new 3rd District Common Council member. The top two candidates will advance to a general election on April 1. The six neighborhood groups also plan to hold a second forum with the final two candidates before the general election.

The non-partisan special election was called after the recent death of alderman and former state representative Jonathan Brostoff, who won the seat in a special election in November 2022.

All eight candidates who have qualified to run for the council seat have agreed to participate. The 3rd District includes the East Side from Edgewood Avenue to the north, Pleasant Street to the South and the eastern half of Riverwest to Lake Michigan.

The forum will run for approximately 90 minutes and be presented in person with a virtual option. Pre-selected questions will be presented by a moderator with candidates having timed responses. The audience cannot participate, and only the candidates and the moderator can speak during the event. There will be an opportunity to meet the candidates after the forum concludes.

Questions for the candidates will be submitted as time allows and address issues important to 3rd District voters such as the Milwaukee’s Growing MKE zoning initiative, reckless driving and traffic calming, crime and safety, city budget concerns and housing development projects.

Parking is available on the street and at the Downer Avenue parking garage.
