Here’s what the organizers had to say about MHNA’s efforts:

“Neighborhood associations can be a great way for residents to work together and get things done.

For example, a neighborhood near UWM experienced a growing influx of student residents.  With that came an increased incidence of disorder, theft, and property damage, not to mention noisy parties and carousing partiers.

No one incident was a major crime.  But the cumulative effect was taking its toll the quality of life in the neighborhood.  Residents became increasingly frustrated when the significance of that cumulative effect didn’t seem to be taken as seriously as it should.

That frustration gave birth to the Report It-Record It program.

Working with District One, the neighborhood association actively encouraged residents to report those incidents rather than suffer them in silence.  And the District recorded those reports and used them to identify nuisance properties, follow up on incidents, and issue appropriate citations.

The neighborhood association in that example is the Murray Hill Neighborhood Association.  And its successful Report It-Record It program has earned the association this year’s award for Outstanding Block Club.”
