Reminder: Share your insights and passions at February’s MHNA Meeting!

Reminder: Meeting tomorrow!

Neighbors,

Please plan to attend next week’s general membership meeting (Tuesday, February 24 at 7 PM at the Urban Ecology Center) for the rolling out of a new concept: Murray Hill Working Groups.  The meeting will start with presenting a brief overview of what we (the MHNA Board) have been working on with UWM, MPD, and other neighborhood associations.  After that, we’ll get into the thinking behind and intent of the Working Groups.  We’ll open it up for brainstorming and feedback and hopefully wrap up the meeting with some great ideas and momentum for some new initiatives.  Here are the working groups we currently have identified:

  • SUSTAINABILITY (solar, multi-modal transportation, stormwater management, urban agriculture & local food)
  • FAMILIES (local schools, events for young families, playgroups)
  • MARKETING (promote neighborhood, work with realtor community, newsletter, special events)
  • CURB APPEAL (property surveys, DNS reporting, neighborhood trash cleanups, snow shoveling for the elderly & disabled)

While our board will continue its focus on the very real and serious issues related to nuisance noise, vandalism, and crime; we also want to open the doors to more neighbors getting excited and involved in the neighborhood in ways that appeal to them.  As we envision it today, these working groups will be volunteer-driven, and would only meet on an as-needed, ad-hoc basis.  They are designed to provide a structure within your neighborhood association to support implementation of your grassroots ideas.  We’re certainly open to other working groups as well!

Your comments, questions, and suggestions on this concept and about the meeting itself are welcomed!  Also, please forward this invitation to anyone else you think would be interested!  Bring a friend!  And if you are interested in getting involved or simply just have an idea you want to share, but can’t make the meeting, send me an e-mail.

I really hope you can join us and share your ideas, insights, and expertise.

Thanks!

Tory Kress
